Arts Advancement Project

Education, health, culture: all critical for full, enriched lives that go beyond self-sufficiency. Zanzibari culture is artistically rich and diverse. Advancing the arts will further education, reinforce cultural pride, and open doors to opportunity.

Here’s what we need to achieve:

  • Provide arts performances at cultural centers in towns and villages to educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the arts.
  • Provide instructional seminars on the performing and visual arts to unlock Zanzibar’s artistic talents.
  • Produce performing arts and music festivals and workshops to increase public understanding of the arts and educate artists.

We’ve made some progress:

In February, 2010, Outreach Zanzibar co-founder Issak Esmail Issak worked actively to mount the theatre production “Barghash and Salme, a relationship”—the first musical theatre production ever in Zanzibar, and the first Swahili language musical!

It’s happening, but we need to grow our ability to unleash the artistic talents of the people of Zanzibar.

We need your help to continue. How Can I Help?
